Some general information about how to apply window films

  • Make sure to not apply window films in direct sunlight, make sure the temperature of the window film, the window itself and the surrounding air is -ideally- around 12 to 18 degrees Celsius. The higher the temperature the more difficult it is to apply the window film!
    • When the temperature is above 18 degrees C. we advise you to apply the window film during the early mornings or after sundown, when the temperature is below 18 degrees C. Turn radiators that are near the windows off, 24 hours in advance!
  • Extensively clean the window and the surrounding area, including you work environment. Clean it of paint, durst, dirt, flies, spiders. Watch out for your fingerprint on the window glass itself. Watch out for your pets.
  • If you are applying a window cling, a very large film, a wet apply film or are very inexperienced, use water. Use a plant sprayer to add a mist of water to the window (see below). When water droplets start running on the window, you have applied too much water. The one-way and two-way vision window film are always applied without water.

  • Never use the backing paper or the application tape/transfer tape to position the window film on the mounting surface. Always use the window film itself. So you correctly position the film at the correct location.
  • If your window film design contains large cut-outs they may still contain a smaller film within them, to make application more easy.

Cutting (window) film

  • Use a sharp Stanley knife/boxcutter and a metal ruler (on top of the wall/window film to protect the film from cutting inward into the wall/window film itself). Press firmly on the ruler. Preferably a 2 men/women job. One cutting, one holding the ruler (a safety ruler, with a anti-slip back, works best).

In the rare occasion that air is still trapped between the window and the transparent window film. Gently push the air bubble to the edge of the printed transparent window film (nearest part of the window not covered with printed transparent window film). No need to use force. If you do not succeed without using force use a pinprick to burst the air bubble.
  • Allow the adhesive enough time to stick to the window. So that removing the application tape does not lift the transparent film from the surface/window/mirror. Remove the application tape after a couple of hours, 6 to 12 hours should be enough.
  • If, when removing the application tape, you lift the transparent window film from the window glass. Wait 24 to 48 hours before removing the application tape.
